Discover the natural beauty and incredible wildlife of Kenya and Tanzania on this 12-day safari. The animals are prolific and diverse. The landscapes are jaw-dropping. While this itinerary is focused on game viewing it can be modified to include substantial cultural immersion, and can be augmented with some wonderful R&R on Zanzibar on the back end. Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be met and transferred to Legendary Lodge. Driving away from the airport and out onto an open road with no city in sight…it feels like your safari has already begun.

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire. Arrive at the lodge for lunch. Then have an afternoon game drive in the park.

Morning and afternoon game drives today offer the chance to search for resident wildlife of Tarangire National Park. During the dry season, there are concentrations of animals around the Tarangire river which make game viewing incredible!

Lake Manyara National Park

Transfer: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive, departing with packed lunch.

Later you will head to the Ngorongoro conservation area. The road to the Lodge skirts the rim of the Crater affording many breathtaking scenic views over the crater floor thousands of feet below. This scenic drive offers clients a different view of the Ngorongoro. After checking in you can relax before enjoying your meal and drinks at the lodge.

This morning the Ngorongoro Crater awaits you. The crater won’t leave you disappointed, you will experience an amazing game drive on the crater floor which is home to tens of thousands of animals and one of the few places in Tanzania where the Big five can still be spotted.

Descend into the sunken cone of the Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy a full-day game drive along the crater floor. The crater’s high walls serve as a natural enclosure for an abundance of wildlife. All the so-called “big five” may be seen. Among the notable birds are Lammergeyer, Vereaux’s Eagle and Egyptian Vulture, which make their home in the highest of the crater wall, the beautiful Rosy-breasted Longclaw, which appears on the plains after rains and flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos which are spasmodic visitors to the crater lakes.

Back at the lodge it’s time to enjoy the sunset and dinner.

Day 6

Transfer: Fly to Kogatende

Kogatende:

  • Early afternoon at leisure
  • Optional: swim in the pool, lounge on your private deck
  • Late afternoon game drive

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for a flight to Kogatende. Upon arrival, transfer to the lodge.

Enjoy lunch on the main outdoor deck while you spot game from your table before spending the remainder of the afternoon discovering this stunning camp, cooling off in the swimming pool or lounging on your private deck. In the late afternoon, climb back into your safari vehicle in search of any of the animals you have not yet been able to spot. You will get back to camp before nightfall giving you the perfect opportunity to enjoy a piping hot shower as you watch the sunset over the park. Dinner is served under the stars followed by a night cap at the bar.

You are free to spend your day in any way you please as there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. You may prefer to rise before the sun for an early morning game drive before returning to camp for a mid-morning breakfast, or settle down in a secluded spot on the plains and enjoy a private breakfast served in the heart of the bush. Alternatively, you may wish to rise a little later and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading out for your game drive and returning in time for lunch.

Day 8

Kogatende:

  • Day at leisure
  • Optional: pamper yourself at the Melengali Spa, relax by the pool or with a good book
  • Also optional: explore the wildlife, landscapes and habitats of the area on foot with a local guide

Accommodation: Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge

Another day at leisure. Today you may wish to pamper yourself at the Melengali Spa and indulge in a soothing massage in a peaceful, natural setting. You can also soak up the hot sun on the pool deck while relaxing with a good book. In the afternoon, you may wish to explore the amazing wildlife, landscapes and habitats of the area on foot in the company of a local guide who will be able to point out the smaller species and birds of this spectacular eco-system. Slowly make your way back to camp and enjoy a sundowner cocktail served on one of the kopjes overlooking the Isuaria escarpment.

Day 9

Transfers: Fly to Tarime, drive to Migori airstrip, fly to Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara:

  • Game drive on the way to camp
  • Afternoon siesta
  • Evening game drive

This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for a flight to Tarime. Then you will be transferred to Migori airstrip for your flight to Maasai Mara. On arrival in the Mara, you will be greeted at the airstrip, and will proceed to your camp with a game drive en route.

Arriving at the Camp, lunch will be prepared for you and hopefully there will be time for an afternoon siesta. An evening game drive is on offer, returning back at the camp for dinner and an opportunity to look back at your day and relive all those highlights.

Day 10

Maasai Mara:

Accommodation: Il Moran Governors Camp

The early mornings are one of the best times to view the animals as this is when they are most active before the heat of the day sets in. Then after some relaxation and lunch, head out into the reserve again for a chance to tick off some more animals on your “must see” list. Keep your eyes peeled as you hunt for the last members on your list.

Back at the camp, dinner is served as you watch the Mara’s spectacular sunset, rounding off another fabulous day on safari.

Day 11

Maasai Mara:

  • Watch the sunrise on an early morning game drive
  • Rest of the day at leisure

Sunrise in the Maasai Mara shouldn’t be missed and is best enjoyed with a cup of hot coffee or tea. After an early morning game drive, you can return to the camp for full breakfast and other leisure activities for the remainder of the day.

Day 12

Transfer: Fly to Nairobi for your International flight

Meals: B

Breakfast will be served at your camp. Later you will be taken to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival in Nairobi you will be greeted at the airport by our representative who will pick you from the domestic flight terminal at Wilson Air Port and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta international airport for your outbound flight.

Tarangire Treetops, Africa

Perched high up in ancient Baobab and Marula trees, Tarangire Treetops Lodge is in the path of the elephant migration. Situated in its own private reserve, the Lodge is able to offer not only morning and afternoon game drives, but also night drives where you experience a whole new spectrum of animals. Between game viewing activities at Tarangire Treetops Lodge you can visit the local Maasai villages or relax at the pool overlooking the waterhole in the camp. The twenty luxury suites at Tarangire Treetops Lodge overlook the Tarangire Sand River. The suites have canvas sides which you can open to create a great outdoor feel. Rooms are large and lavishly furnished. Decorated with natural materials and a contemporary feel, each tree house at Treetops has a bathroom with double shower and a private balcony where you can relax and do some game spotting.


Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Africa 

Perched on the edge of the crater itself, the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is considered to be the most luxurious property inside the conservation area. The lodge has 30 suites divided into three separate camps inspired in design by the Maasai mud-and-stick manyatta (homestead), Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular safari lodges in Africa. The main dining area has huge chandeliers, deep red decor and you cannot escape the incredible view of the crater through every window. The staff are incredibly friendly and focused on the guest experience.


Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge, Kogatende, Africa

Lemala Kuria Hills is situated on magnificent Hills close to the Mara River and within the main corridor of the world-famous wildebeest migration and habitats of the northern Serengeti. Large boulders and kopjes form the prominent features of the site and each guest tent has been carefully positioned amongst these to ensure privacy and spectacular vistas of the gentle grassed slopes. The Lodge consists of 10 Glass fronted suite tents with en-suite flush toilet, running water and hot showers and a freestanding bath. All suites have plunge pools and there is a swimming pool with sundeck in main area. Public areas are made up of three tents housing a combined lounge and bar area, dining area and the reception, all with superb views.


II Moran Governors Camp

Governors’ Il Moran is a small and intimate Camp situated along the banks of Mara River, hidden under ancient trees. With only ten tents, guests are offered an extra bit of luxury and personalized services. The Camp has ten vast, luxurious tents that feature super ‘king size’ beds fashioned from ancient fallen olive trees, and Victorian style baths. During the day, meals are served on the banks of the Mara River under the giant evergreen trees. Dinner is served by candlelight in the open dining tent or alfresco by the river.
